Installation

Install ApproSearch in your store

Create your account, connect your store and run the first indexing. Choose your platform and follow the steps.

Choose your platform

Before you start: your account

These steps are the same for PrestaShop and Shopify. You do them in the ApproSearch panel, in the Connect your store wizard.

The trial

The trial lasts 14 days, includes the Growth plan features and doesn't ask for a card. If you don't choose a plan when the trial ends, your search is paused, with no charge. The conditions are in the terms of service.

  1. 1. Create your account

    Go to panel.approsearch.com/register. If the page is in Spanish, choose English in the language selector. Enter your name, your store name, your email and a password of at least 8 characters, and click Sign up. Signing up starts the 14-day trial with the Growth features, with no card.

  2. 2. Open the wizard

    In the panel, on Home, click Open the wizard. In Choose your platform, click PrestaShop or Shopify.

  3. 3. Create the store

    If your account has no store yet, enter the name and address of your online store and click Create the store. The wizard generates the store’s API key: click Copy when your platform’s steps ask for it.

The API key is only shown in the wizard. If you sign out before pasting it in the connector, open the wizard again: it generates a new one. The wizard checks the connection live, so you can keep it open while you install.

PrestaShop

Module for PrestaShop 1.7 and 8.x.

What you need

  • PrestaShop 1.7 or 8.x. The module doesn’t support PrestaShop 1.6.
  • Access to the PrestaShop back office with permission to install modules.
  • The API key that the panel wizard generates.

The module settings are only in Spanish. The steps quote its labels as they appear.

  1. 1. Download the module

    In the wizard, click Download the module. You get a zip with the latest version of the module.

  2. 2. Upload the module to PrestaShop

    In the PrestaShop back office, go to Modules > Module Manager, click Upload a module and select the zip. When it finishes, click Configure.

  3. 3. Connect the module

    In Conexión con ApproSearch, paste the API key and click Guardar conexión. The module detects the store’s languages and currencies, creates the indices and starts the first indexing.

  4. 4. Wait for the first indexing

    Keep the module page open until the Puesta en marcha list marks the products as indexed. The first indexing runs while that page is open.

  5. 5. Optional: check the search in your theme

    In Puesta en marcha, click Abrir la página de prueba. The search opens inside your theme without showing it to your customers.

  6. 6. Turn on the search

    In Puesta en marcha, click Activar el buscador.

After installing

If you use multistore, connect each PrestaShop store with its own API key. The module sends product changes right away. Optional: schedule the cron line that the module shows in Indexación del catálogo to check the full catalog every day. You tune relevance, synonyms, filters and the look of the search in the panel. The PrestaShop module manual (in Spanish) has every option.

Shopify

App installed from the Shopify App Store.

What you need

  • A Shopify store where you can install apps.
  • The API key that the panel wizard generates.

The app screens are only in Spanish. The steps quote its labels as they appear.

  1. 1. Install the app

    In the wizard, click Open the Shopify App Store, or open the ApproSearch listing on the Shopify App Store, and install the app. Accept the permissions it asks for.

  2. 2. Connect the app

    In the app, go to Configuración, paste the API key and click Guardar. The app takes your store’s main language and published languages, creates the indices and starts syncing products, collections and pages.

  3. 3. Turn on the search in your theme

    In the app, click Abrir editor de tema. In App embeds, turn on ApproSearch and click Save.

  4. 4. Optional: full-page results

    To show full-page results when shoppers press Enter, turn on Página de resultados in Configuración and add the ApproSearch resultados block to your theme’s search template.

After installing

The app’s Sincronización screen shows the progress. After the first sync, changes arrive automatically through webhooks. To use metafields as filters, choose them in Metafields in the app. You tune relevance, synonyms and the look of the search in the panel. The Shopify app manual (in Spanish) has every option.

The connectors for these platforms aren’t published in their extension marketplaces and you can’t install them on your own. If your store runs on one of them, tell us and we’ll explain how to connect it.

Custom store or another platform

Send the catalog with the ApproSearch API and load the search with the code snippet that the panel shows in Widget > Integration. The custom integration page has the details.
